Solo Date Ideas for Spring

Spring is soooo here!!

If you’ve been a reader for a while, you know I’m a big lover of making bucket lists, mood boards, and lists of things to do each season. It’s something I’ve always done and gets me excited about life. Most times, I don’t check off everything on my bucket list – partly because there is simply not enough time in the world to do everything, but a lot of times, no one is around. I’ve been working on overcoming my fear of doing things solo and it’s been an interesting journey because guess what – no one cares if you’re doing something alone. Which is equally scary and freeing.

Solo dates are all the craze and with good reason. You can’t wait for others to be ready to start living your own life, especially in the spring, when the world is practically begging to be explored and enjoyed!

What to do, though, you ask?!

I’ve got you covered: here is your spring solo date playbook. Pull from my ideas below or make your own version of them. I’ll be using a few of these myself this spring – I hope you can find something inspirational!

Solo Date Ideas for Spring:

Take yourself to an art class.

Surely, there is some form of an art class available in your city or town. If you head there solo, you might even make a friend! Try researching:

  • candle making
  • pottery painting
  • paint & sip
  • drawing classes

An art class is a great solo date because you have an actual task at hand and won’t have to try to find somewhere to look or something to do with your hands, etc.!

Go on a flower walk.

If you haven’t heard of a flower walk, it’s pretty much what it sounds like, but it can also be what you make it! You’re going on a walk looking for flowers. There are a few different ways to “collect” the flowers too.

Try taking photos of each different kind of flower you come across. Then create a collage on Pinterest or on your phone and now you have a cute background for your phone.

You could also pick yourself a little mini bouquet (wild flowers only!!!! don’t steal from people’s gardens!!!!). Bring them home and put them in a tiny glass on your nightstand – so cute.

Have a picnic with your favorite snacks and a book.

If it’s a beautiful weekend morning and you have nothing on the agenda, go OUTSIDE and have a picnic. It doesn’t have to be anywhere fancy – it can be right in your own backyard.

Get a blanket or even a beach towel and set yourself up in the sunshine with a book and a few of your favorite foods. It doesn’t have to be aesthetic. I repeat – it does not have to be aesthetic!

Dine somewhere new that you’ve been wanting to try.

This one can be a little scary but can also be SO fun and so ~romantic~ of you to do! Maybe there is a restaurant down the street that you always pass but have never been to. Or maybe you want to start somewhere smaller where you can order and sit down without a server.

Dining alone is a brave but effective way to learn to love your own company!

See a movie in theaters and be sure to get soda and popcorn.

An easy one! Take yourself to the movies!! And treat yourself to the overpriced soda and popcorn, especially if you don’t usually have either.

Find the nearest body of water and go kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, or whatever is offered.

Even if it’s still cold in your area, it’s likely that you’re getting the first taaaaste of spring-type weather. Wait for a beautiful day and take yourself to a lake, the beach (if you’re lucky), or any public body of water you can find. Rent a kayak or just lounge by the water if there isn’t a formal activity you can do. Being around water is such a mood booster.

Attend an event like bingo or a book club in your city (scary level 10000).

If you need to check off doing one thing that scares you this year, here’s your chance! Head to an informal, everyone’s invited type of event in your city. I promise it exists! You might have to look through instagram or other social media platforms but I’m sure you’ll be able to find a community event where all are welcome. Bingo or a book club is nice because there is a structured type activity happening.

One event I’d really like to try solo this spring is attending one of those cute wellness events that fitness studios have where they partner with other local businesses. I am not totally sure I have the guts to go solo but it’s on my spring bucket list!

Go blueberry picking.

Or go any fruit-picking, as long as it’s in season. As a bonus, bake a pie or cake with your freshly picked berries! It’s always so much better with fresh fruit you’ve picked yourself.

Beach, pool, or lake day.

Find some water and enjoy!! Bring a book (or not!), a blanket, or a chair, and let yourself just lay in the sun without feeling any kind of guilt for doing next to nothing.

P.S. It doesn’t have to be “beach” weather -you can head to any of these places fully clothed and still enjoy the sun on your face.

Cook yourself a fancy dinner with seasonal foods.

Your solo date doesn’t necessarily mean you have to leave the house. Romanticize a night in by turning on a fancy playlist, lighting a candle, and cooking a delicious meal.

You could try a recipe that you’ve had saved for-EVER or you can cook a long time favorite, as long as you have fun with it. Try to sit and eat your meal without your phone – it deserves your full attention.

Visit a farmer’s market.

I know there’s a farmer’s market in your area, at least monthly! Go there! Buy flowers. Talk to the vendors. Walk around a few laps just for the heck of it.

Go on a sunset (or sunrise) drive.

Put on a feel good mix and take a 10 – 15 minute drive around the neighborhood with your windows down. Take your drive during the sunset and tell me you’re not almost brought to tears at the beauty of just everything! There are few feelings that can be compared to a stunning sunset with your favorite song of the moment playing.

There’s also something romantic and peaceful about driving with no destination or time frame; you can actually enjoy the drive and take in your surroundings (SAFELY).

Relax at a cafe with a delicious beverage.

We all saw this one coming but head to a local favorite cafe where you’re super comfortable and order your favorite drink or a seasonal drink that’s new. You could:

  • read a book
  • listen to music on your headphones
  • do “admin” work and plan out your week
  • journal
  • work on homework or apply for jobs

Cafes are a sacred third space that are perfect for solo dates.

Take yourself shopping.

Hit the mall! Remember the days of getting dropped off at the mall to spend an afternoon with friends? The beauty of adulthood is that we can do those things alone now, and with our own cars or ubers.

Malls are slowly and sadly becoming obsolete, so I highly suggest going to enjoy one while you can. Take in the scents of the pretzel stands and the perfume departments. Even if you won’t be buying anything, write down some ideas for a wish list, for a day when you’re ready to buy.

Almost any activity can be romanticized enough that it turns into a solo date – you deserve a wonderful, beautiful spring this year! Busy schedules make it so hard to plan things with friends or even significant others so a solo date is sometimes needed. I promise no one is looking at you as much as you think and taking yourself on solo dates builds confidence in a way that can’t be shaken.

But the whole point of these solo spring dates is to enjoy life. If it feels forced, good news, you don’t have to do it again!

So enjoy this season, because like all the others, it only comes around once a year <3
