Spooky season is officially upon us! October is a crowd favorite, at least in the states, and for good reason. This time of year is the beginning of the holidays here including Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years; I think October is so popular because the suspense of it all is just the best. All of the fun is ahead!
Of course it can feel like a lot of pressure to enjoy all things spooky in just 31 days, and there is no one size fits all for the season. Add in having to work or attend school and there is even more pressure. With the rise of reels and TikToks boasting this year’s “must do” halloween pop up and “must visit” small towns, the FOMO can be so real. But fear not, I have your guide on how to make the absolute most of this month without getting overwhelmed and have your best spooky season yet!

PLAN AHEAD
- Create an October mood or vision board. I think there is an actual science to creating vision boards. Think about the actual vibe you want for yourself this October. Do you want all things cozy and indoors? Do you want to attend as many fall festivals as possible? This can be all up to you, your board can be digital or physical. For digital mood boards I love using Canva – it’s super user friendly and so much fun to play around with. For bonus points, take yourself to a coffee shop, get your favorite drink and make your mood board. See mine below for inspiration.

- Take a look at your calendar and plan out every single weekend. Even if you don’t end up doing what’s planned, try to put something down. I suggest using a bucket list you may have created to do this. See my calendar below. Not all of my events are going to happen, but it gives me something to look forward to and helps me “do” things on the weekend instead of having to improvise or try to make last minute plans.

- Plan your week with ‘after work’ activities. In order to make Mondays more enjoyable, I use Monday morning to plan out my week. I love this method so I can fully enjoy my Sunday. Making before or after work plans takes some effort but it’s so worth it to feel like your day isn’t just “work.” Schedule a minimum of one autumn activity per week. Suggestions are below:

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH HALLOWEEN
- Decorate. It may sound obvious, but set aside some time to decorate your space. You could go all out with the halloween decorations or opt for more of a fall / autumn theme. And why not go all out like you used to as a kid!? Decorate your bedroom, the bathroom, the kitchen, the porch! Switch out your mugs and dishtowels and dig out those decorations you never really use. It’ll be worth it! I also suggest putting on a spooky movie or cozy show in the background.

- Switch up your flavors. It really is the little things in life. Switch up your coffee flavor. Switch up the creamer to pumpkin spice and relish in it. Even switch up your breakfast for something more autumnal like an apple cinnamon muffin or oatmeal with pumpkin spice on top. These little shifts make for a big overall shift in the vibe of your season!

- Switch up your books and shows. Keeping on theme with the previous tip, watch seasonal shows and read seasonal books! Read my post on 10 Books that Feel Like Fall for some suggestions. Some of the coziest fall shows are Gilmore Girls, Sabrina, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, and Teen Spirit. They’re all so perfect for this time of year.

INCLUDE YOUR WORKPLACE
- Decorate your home office or cubicle. Let’s face it, even if you absolutely love your job, you’d probably rather be out experiencing a pumpkin patch or watching spooky movies with friends on a rainy October day. But since most of us do end up having to spend 40 hours of our week at work, may as well make the most of it? Try to spice up your surroundings with little Halloween trinkets that make you smile.
- Change your desktop wallpaper. I personally do this every month. But kind of like creating a mood board, this can be a fun little project. You can use Canva or even Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Bring Halloween themed treats for your coworkers. Pinterest lovers, this one is for you! Take a look at some easy halloween treats you can make to bring for the office or workplace. People will LOVE whatever you bring, trust me.

The overarching theme of making this the best spooky season yet, is making it your own. There is no formula of activities you MUST do to have a great season, but there is a formula to switch up the vibes around you. Enjoy your October however YOU want to! xo
