preparing for fall

Today is officially the first day of fall! Here in Florida, it definitely still feels like summer, but dare I say the nights are slightly less, ahem, muggy. But even though the weather isn’t changing, the vibes sure are. School is back in session here in Orlando, a certain few theme parks in the area are having special events most nights, and fall festivals are popping up everywhere in small towns surrounding the city. I love celebrating seasons and holidays to the fullest so below is how I am preparing to celebrate fall this year! It always takes a tiny bit of extra effort here in sunny Florida since I grew up with gorgeous rolling hills of trees with changing leaves and real farms and dropping temperatures…you get the picture. But these are ways you could celebrate no matter the climate!

Make a Fall Bucket List

I am a big bucket list girlie. I am a big goals girlie. And I’m a big list girlie. I make bucket lists for the month, the week, the season, you name it! It helps me to first of all, remember the things I’d like to do in the fall. The list often saves me from boredom and gets me into the spirit of the season. As I’ve gotten more advanced, I even decorate these to fit the season. You can use Canva or even something as simple as a PowerPoint to create your list. I’ll link mine as soon as it is done!

Switching up my Wardrobe

Yeah, so there won’t be a drastic difference in the actual types of clothing as far as shorts, dresses, t shirts and tank tops, but I’m hoping to shift the style to fit a more “cozy,” look. I’m trying to be really intentional about what I buy because I’d like to wear it next fall, and the next fall after that too. I’m focusing on darker colors and pieces that are classic in style.

Getting out the Fall Decor

Fall decor in this apartment mostly means Halloween decor, but not completely! I love getting candles from Marshall’s (they’re less expensive than Bath&Body Works) and a lot of our other decor comes from Pottery Barn. They have quality pieces that I think will be timeless year after year. But honestly, the Dollar Tree, Walmart, Target, and Marshall’s have amazing fall and Halloween sections this year, at least in my area.

Changing Meal Routines

Did you say PUMPKIN SPICE?! In the fall, I always try to theme my breakfast! In the past I’ve had (get ready) pumpkin spice cheerios, pumpkin spice English muffins, pumpkin spice doughnuts, pumpkin spice coffee creamer, etc. These are usually seasonal, at the grocery store, or even at these Amazon links, they’re limited edition, so it’s special to have them only once a year. But I also just like to have something heartier than I might other seasons. I love oatmeal with cinnamon and berries as well. For lunch and dinner, I’ll certainly be integrating more pasta and soups.

Pick Up a New or Old Hobby

Growing up, my thing in the fall was playing Animal Crossing on my Nintendo DS. I only did this during the fall, it just seemed right. Now that I’m writing this, I actually have the very strong urge to dig up my old Nintendo for this purpose, because I know I still have it. But fall is a great time to try something new. Summer can be a little hectic and filled with a lot of travel but I tend to calm down in the fall and have more time to myself. I’ve been doing a lot more writing, both here and in my personal life, so I hope to keep that up in the coming months.

Do you change anything during the changes in season? If so I’d love to hear and thank you for reading! Happy Autumn!!
