24 Ways to Romanticize Spring

I’ve always loved the changing of seasons, no matter the change. To me, different seasons are one of the many things that makes life fun and keeps it interesting. And I adore celebrating each season best I can! This means decorating, changing perfumes, changing wardrobes, attending events, and more; anything I can do to lean into a particular season, I’m there.

Now, dear reader, we’ve fully arrived in spring.

Spring is practically begging to be romanticized. The flowers, the sundresses, the weather warming up, the longer days… it almost romanticizes itself. It’s the season for all things whimsical, pretty, and fun.

At its core, romanticizing is all about being present and appreciating the moment (and maybe being a little bit extra with it).  It’s taking simple pleasures and making them special.

With winter behind us, it’s time to lean into all of the beautiful things that spring has to offer as we transition to a warmer and brighter time of year.

So how to make the most of it? I’ve got you! Below are ways you can romanticize AND celebrate spring this year.

Ways to Romanticize Spring

1. Switch up your wardrobe. Time to dust off the spring and summer clothing! If you’re lucky enough to have the space, put your winter gear into storage and get out those warm weather clothes. Try things on and get rid of anything you know you won’t wear, to make space for new spring outfits.

Spring is also a perfect time to try out a new look. Maybe experiment with an outfit you’ve always been wanting to try. Or if you are looking to revamp your wardrobe completely and are not sure where to start, use Pinterest – it’s a great tool for putting together a vision of what you want your style to be this season!

2. Create a “spring” playlist. And use your playlist while you’re cleaning, driving, or just getting ready in the morning. You’ll look back and when you hear some of the songs, you’ll think of spring. Think light-hearted, happy songs for spring.

Artists like Harry Styles, Olivia Dean, and Sabrina Carpenter have very a very SPRING vibe.

3. Host a garden party. Invite some friends over for a party outside in your lawn or porch area. Everyone can bring a small bite to eat and you can make a seasonal cocktail or mocktail. The point is – it’s a party outside!

4. Buy yourself flowers from the farmer’s market. Or the grocery store! Wherever you can find flowers, buy yourself some this spring. You deserve them just because.

5. Create a spring mood board. I love making mood boards. I create these for every season and sometimes monthly. You can pick out photos that represent your goals for the season or simply a vibe you want to embody. There are a few ways you can create your mood board.

Use Pinterest for a vertical board (think the shape of your phone). Use Canva for a “PowerPoint” shaped board (think the shape of your laptop screen). You can even make a physical mood board and cut out photos from magazines or newspapers if you can find them. Make a night out of it!

6. Change your phone (and / or computer) background. Time to update those screensavers! You can create your own iPhone background using Pinterest or Canva. If you’d rather not create your own, simply google “spring themed iPhone background,” and screenshot one that you like. It’ll brighten your day a little every time you peek at your phone.

7. Swap to a spring fragrance. Take yourself on a little shopping spree to Sephora or the perfume section of any major department store. PS, shopping is a romantic activity in itself. Look around for a light spring fragrance that speaks to you! If you’re like me and get decision paralysis, try out a perfume sample set. These are usually pretty cheap and you can try out 10 to 15 fragrances to see what you really love.

I’m a big fragrance girl so some of my spring fragrance recommendations are:

8. Drive with your windows down whenever possible. Just yesterday I had our balcony door cracked and thought about how much I loved the smell of outside. It’s almost impossible to describe but I’m sure you can picture it. Especially during spring, the smell is just…warm?

Driving with your windows down is a great way to romanticize spring. The weather is just warming up and I’ll bet your face and skin have missed the feel of fresh air!

9. Learn a fresh new recipe. There are tons of seasonal spring dishes you can try out. I’m more of a baker than a cook so I’d suggest some fresh lemon squares or a strawberry shortcake of some sort.

10. Pick strawberries or blueberries. Look up seasonal produce farms in your area and see if they offer any kind of fruit picking. Even though you’re not technically growing the fruit yourself, picking the fruit yourself makes it so much more rewarding / delicious to eat!

11. Start a garden, even if it’s tiny. But you totally can grow your own fruit! Or vegetables. Or flowers. Taking care of a plant and growing it from a seed takes patience and careful attention, which is a great practice for those of you (and me) who like to speed through tasks and have a hard time sitting still.

If you don’t have a balcony or yard, it’s totally possible to grown an indoor plant. Just make sure you do your research on plants that don’t need too much sunlight.

12. Read a book outside. Pick up a book or your Kindle and head outdoors. Romanticize this further and bring your favorite fancy beverage or some water with fruit slices to enjoy while you read. Leave your phone inside and let yourself fall into a flow state of reading your book.

Currently reading: “The Wedding People,” by Alison Espach – this book is hilarious & feel good!

13. Have a tech free picnic. Get some good friends or family together and have a picnic in the backyard or at a local park. You could bring your own blanket or find a good old fashioned wooden bench.

Bring a cooler or basket of classic picnic foods like PB&Js or you could pick up subs from a local deli. And don’t forget fresh fruit!! Try doing no phones allowed to keep it tech free.

14. Order something you’d never usually splurge on from the local cafe. I’m talking about the pastry you look at every time you’re at the coffee shop but never order. Now’s the time to try it, and really savor it!

15. Write a letter to a friend or family member and actually mail it. How excited would you be if you got a letter in the mail!? Something that isn’t a bill, an ad, or just plain junk? I bet pretty excited. You have the power to deliver that joy to someone else. Write a ‘just because’ note to someone you care about or someone you miss. I promise they’ll be so happy to hear from you.

16. Print out some of your photos and scrapbook with friends. Get crafty this spring! Select a few photos that you would love to have physical copies of and get them printed. You can create a scrapbook using Shutterfly or you can print out the individual photos and put them in your own scrapbook.

My mom kept scrapbooks since I was a baby and I used to always love looking through them! There’s something about having a physical picture to look at versus scrolling through photos on your phone.

17. Try out a seasonal beverage. Next time you’re at Starbucks or your local cafe, try one of their seasonal drink offerings. There will probably be something with berries (if I had to guess!!).

18. Wake up 10 minutes earlier. The main purpose of this is so that you have more time for your morning routine. You don’t necessarily add in anything, but this gives you the freedom to do things more sloowwwllllyyyy in the morning. Slow down and really ground yourself through every step of your morning routine.

Mornings are truly magic. Let this be the season you learn to be just a little bit more of a morning person if you aren’t already.

19. Paint your own toenails a pastel color. Save your money and give yourself an at-home pedicure. Paint your toenails a light pink, blue, or butter yellow for a spring-y feel.

20. Deep clean your home while blasting your spring playlist. Make your home sparkly again for spring! And good thing you made a spring playlist – it’s the perfect time to blast it.

21. Go to a brunch with your friends! Spring is for brunching! Dress in your cute pastels and head to a little Sunday brunch. Nothing really says spring is here like bottomless mimosas with your girls.

22. Spend the whole day outside. Pretend you’re little again and want nothing more than to spend the whole day playing outside! You could head to a park, set up and read somewhere, go for a walk, sit by the pool or lake if it’s warm enough, or just sit on your porch at home and enjoy people watching in your own neighboorhood.

23. Find a podcast about spring to listen to while in the shower. I love a podcast in the shower and you can find podcasts about anything – including spring! Listen to facts about spring, or how to make the most of spring this year, etc.

24. Wear the dresses or fancy clothes you’ve been saving. It goes kind of hand in hand with switching up your wardrobe, but it’s time to stop “saving” your best outfits. Wear the dress you’ve been saving for the perfect occasion. The perfect occasion is now and your dress deserves to be seen.
