My summer mornings are worlds away from my mornings the rest of the year. Summer is a time where I am able to move more slowly and actually venture away from a routine.
I do try to keep a loose routine even in the summer when I have nowhere to be. A healthy start to the day is important to me and doing a few simple things helps me to feel like I have my life together, even when it’s a free-for-all kind of day!

Step One: Skin Care.
The very first thing I do when I get out of bed is drink water and complete a super basic skin care routine. This summer, I’ve focused more on nourishment and less on stripping products like exfoliants.
I use a serum and a moisturizer only. I don’t wash my face since usually I will have done that the night before. To start, I use Ren Vitamin C serum (discontinued…so sad!!). But as a major pro tip – Ren is going out of business and everything is 50% off on their website. It is an amazing brand, and I have not been disappointed by a single product of theirs! I believe they’re going out of business because a company bought them out and it sounds like there were poor management issues. ANYWAY, I’ll be looking for a new serum soon!! After my serum, then I use Medik8 Total Moisture Daily Face Cream every morning. It’s perfect for any skin type, I love it.

If I feel like adding a little something, I’ll put on some under-eye patches to help with the morning puffiness, but that’s only about once or twice a week. I use MIZON Under Eye Patches.
My morning skin care takes less that 2 minutes, really, so there is no excuse to NOT take care of my face. Plus I really enjoy it!
Step Two: Sunlight.
I do love some natural sunlight and quiet time. Even though sometimes I sleep in until, ahem, 10am, I do like to use the natural light to help me wake up more. Sometimes I’ll step out front to our porch and sometimes out back, but I love being out in the warmth for just a few minutes in the morning. This is also great for your circadian rhythm, though ideally that sun exposure should be before 10am! I’ll get there – once I’m back to work 🙂

Step Three: Breakfast
The third and final step to my routine is breakfast. You will absolutely never catch me skipping breakfast. It gets me out of bed in the morning, I love it so much. Recently I’ve been having a plain bagel with almond butter, salt, and pepper, and a side of berries. Then of course, drip pot coffee with flavored creamer and a scoop of collagen powder.
Both Mo and I use the Ancient Nutrition Multi-Collagen Protein Powder (linked above). I put 1 scoop in my coffee everyday but he uses it in his smoothie. We get the unflavored kind so it is completely tasteless.
That’s pretty much the extent of my morning routine in the summer. If you’re new here, I’m a middle school librarian, so I’m blessed to be off for the whole summer. I try to take advantage of slow and easy mornings as they’ve always been my favorite part of the day! The day is so full of hope and potential! Thank you for reading! xo
