weekly reset routine

Ahhh weekly resets. I live for resets. I’ve said this before but I love a new week, a new season, a new year, and even a new day.  Every day is a chance to reset but there are a few things I like to do weekly to take care of my home and myself that make day to day living easier. I’m a firm believer in routines and I think having a weekly reset routine is so helpful in keeping your space organized and clean.  You can include anything you’d like in your reset routine, but I’ll be sharing my tips below along with my reset routine.

TIPS FOR WEEKLY RESET

  • Do your reset on the same day each week, and on a day where you are usually available to be home for your reset.  It is for this reason that I actually don’t recommend doing a reset on a weekend.  Leaving your weekend free allows you to fully relax and to make spontaneous plans without feeling guilty for neglecting any part of your reset.
  • Include chores and tasks that fit with your lifestyle. For example, since I work from home, I can prepare my meal when I want it, so I don’t include meal prep or grocery shopping in my reset.  Or if you find yourself doing laundry every other day, you don’t have to include this! Your reset is yours and is meant to make life easier, not overwhelm you with unnecessary lists to check off. Try to mix in some things you love doing, like maybe a facemask, if you find your reset list becoming heavy on the unpleasant side of chores.
  • Create a playlist to go along with your reset routine. Having a playlist will automatically increase the vibes of your reset routine. My reset routine is heavy on the cleaning side so I really like having music in the background. You can search spotify for one or create your own!

MY WEEKLY RESET

Onto my personal weekly reset: it did take me a while to craft it.  I keep a planner and this “reset” started with me always keeping “go over finances” on my to-do list on Mondays.  From there I realized it would be easy to work in a few other things that are more enjoyable on Mondays such as a facemask, rather than doing them sporadically (nothing wrong with that though!). This further led to me trying to keep my Monday evenings free. So then the deep cleaning came in.  I used to do it whenever I got a chance, which ended up being monthly or even semi-annually (I KNOW). It actually made it that much more difficult, and gross, when I did buckle down to clean.  But my point is, the ultimate reason for having a reset is to make life easier in the long run.  I love the quote “do something your future self will thank you for.”  But I also like to incorporate something for my present self into my reset.

I love doing my reset on a Monday evening.  I prefer to enjoy Sundays relaxing or doing fun things.  I rarely, if ever, make plans on Mondays so I can have the time to take care of some things at the start of the week without cutting into my weekend time. Below you’ll find my Weekly Monday Reset.  I end work at 5pm and then make my dinner and have a walk.  After those luxuries, around 6:30pm I begin the reset below in the following order:

  • 1st: Cleaning
    • Wipe down inside and outside of the refrigerator.
    • Clean the inside of the microwave.
    • Vacuum the entire house.
    • Deep clean both bathrooms.
  • 2nd: Self Care
    • Facemask
    • Everything shower
  • 3rd: Organization
    • Go over finances & budget
    • Check health care and any possible upcoming appointments

My reset routine is currently a bit thrown off as we just moved and it’s nearly impossible to vacuum or let myself fully relax. Things just aren’t cute in here currently but we’re getting there! There is a lot of pressure from social media to have aesthetic and organized routines, but that just isn’t always realistic. In the boom of “morning routines,” “reset routines,” and “day in my life,” TikToks and Reels, don’t forget that crafting your routine is about what feels good for you and those around you! The only aesthetic it needs to fit is YOURS.
